For the 24th annual year, Grand Valley State University’s Department of Physical Therapy is hosting the Wheel Run 5K on Saturday, April 4th. Run, walk, or handcycle your way through GVSU’s beautiful Allendale Campus. 100% of the proceeds from this event support Alternatives in Motion’s mission to provide mobility equipment to those in need.
The event has been passed down through graduating classes, but this year the event organizers are taking the Wheel Run to new heights. Colleen Conroy, this year’s event organizer, is a second-year physical therapy student and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan. At U of M, Colleen was part of the running team for all four years.
When the opportunity to coordinate the Wheel Run was presented, Colleen was very excited to get involved. “The event perfectly combines my desire to help those in our community with my love of running. The GVSU DPT class of 2021 has chosen to prioritize community service and we have been able to develop a committee of people devoted to putting on this event,” says Colleen.
From running in the race to volunteering at the event, there are multiple ways to get involved with the Wheel Run and AIM. “People should run to support Alternatives in Motion because it’s more than just a race. This event gives everyone the opportunity to help provide mobility and independence to individuals who may not otherwise have access to these things.”
Race registration is only $25 and includes a race t-shirt. Attendees can register up until the day before the race.
“I hope that we can make this the best Wheel Run yet,” says Colleen.
